Plot summary
A single plot of land in New Jersey is the stage for lives across time. Dinosaurs roam it before an ice age, and later the Lenni-Lenape people live there. The land becomes part of William Franklin's estate, and around 1900 a house is built. John Harter and his wife Pauline are the first to live there with their daughter. In the 1940s, inventor Leo and pin-up model Stella Beekman occupy the house. In 1945, after World War II, Al and Rose Young buy the house and raise three children: Richard, Elizabeth and Jimmy. When Richard is eighteen, his girlfriend Margaret becomes pregnant, and they marry and raise their daughter Vanessa in the same house.
