Plot summary
Doris Miller has spent her life in the same house as her mother, and now that her mother has died, her brother Todd and his wife Cynthia want the place sold and its decades of accumulated possessions cleared out. Years of caregiving left Doris with almost no social life of her own; she was engaged in her twenties, but her fiancé moved away for work. She is close to her friend Roz and to Roz's teenage granddaughter, Vivian. For decades Doris has done data entry in Manhattan, and on her way to the office she meets John, a new young co-worker, and is immediately taken with him. Encouraged by self-improvement tapes, she decides to try to win him, and with Vivian's help she sets up a fake social media profile to find out what he likes.
