Plot summary
Izzy lives in an isolated woodland home with her mother, home-schooled and kept away from everyone else. Her mother tells her an autoimmune disease is the reason. The two of them make metal music, eat only vegan food gathered nearby, and Izzy's mother goes to town alone for supplies. When Izzy meets a teenaged neighbor, she is invited to a party, where a dare to eat a worm leaves her hallucinating. Her mother, disturbed, begins to tell Izzy about a family link to witchcraft and about powers waking in her.
