Nick is a doctor, and he and Laura, a real estate agent, appear to have a happy marriage and a daughter. In fact, both of them carry on sexual affairs with other people. Laura is devastated by Nick's infidelity even though she has a torrid affair of her own. She desperately tries to save her marriage. At the same time, her mysterious past begins to emerge, and she becomes paranoid, delusional and violent. Her therapist suspects that she is exaggerating or even imagining the affairs she reports. Laura turns viciously on former partners and would-be lovers, among them Sam, a sculptor who plays saxophone.
