Plot summary
Mallory Kane is a freelance covert operative who works for a private intelligence firm, handling jobs that governments cannot authorize and that leaders would prefer not to know about. Kenneth, the firm's director and her former boyfriend, sends her and her team to Barcelona to free Jiang, a hostage, and they hand him over to Rodrigo, a local contact. Once she is back home, Kenneth hands Mallory a job that looks simple: in Dublin she poses as the wife of Paul, an agent said to be with MI6, and goes with him to a party at Russborough House. The Dublin operation goes wrong, and Mallory is set up for it.

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- To turn mixed martial artist Gina Carano into a black ops agent, the production put her through six weeks of tactical training with former Duvdevan Unit officer Aaron Cohen: three hours of stunts and three hours with Cohen every day. For a two-week stretch on surveillance and counter-surveillance, Cohen and his team tracked her using a GPS unit fitted to her car.
- Lionsgate wanted something closer to the Bourne films while Steven Soderbergh wanted a spy thriller built around long, realistic fights. The clash, reshoots and a switch of distributor to Relativity Media held the film back more than a year, during which Soderbergh shot and cut Contagion, which reached cinemas a month ahead of it.
- Carano fought her own fights, but not every sound of her is hers: in post-production some of her voice was overdubbed by actress Laura San Giacomo.
