Plot summary
Abby and Harper have been together for nearly a year. Since her parents died, Abby has disliked Christmas, so Harper invites her home for the holidays, and Abby decides to propose on Christmas morning. Before they reach the Caldwell house, Harper confesses that she never came out to her parents, afraid of hurting her father Ted's mayoral campaign, and she asks Abby to pass as her roommate. There Abby meets Ted, Tipper, and Harper's sisters, and is introduced as an orphan friend with nowhere else to go. She also meets Harper's exes, Connor and Riley, and watches Harper compete with her older sister, Sloane, under their parents' high expectations.
