Plot summary
At a London policy institute, Dr. Lauren Slaughter does research that her superiors take credit for, and her pay barely covers the rent on a dilapidated flat. A video tape arrives anonymously, promoting the money to be made as an escort, and she signs with the Jasmine Escort Agency, which gives her a measure of control over the men and the money. Her clients include Karim, a Palestinian businessman, and Lord Bulbeck, a peer with a role in international diplomacy and national defense. Lauren and Bulbeck enjoy each other's conversation and intelligence, not only the sex. His part in a fragile Middle East peace process keeps him from a run of their dates, and Lauren feels rejected.
