Plot summary

Five young animals, each living in a different wild part of the world, are at the beginning of their lives and have everything to learn. Their first problem is food: what to eat, and where to look for it. Their second is danger, which is never far off. Older family members offer guidance as the young ones grow, and instinct supplies part of what they need. Much of it comes down to trial and error. The young animals move from their first explorations of their surroundings to a life on their own, and the road there holds both victories and failures.
