Frank Marshall

Biography

Frank Marshall is an American film producer and director who was born in Glendale, California and entered the business by volunteering on Peter Bogdanovich's Targets (1968), an apprenticeship that led to work as location manager on The Last Picture Show (1971). He moved up to associate producer under Bogdanovich, then earned a first executive producer credit on The Warriors (1979) and a first producer credit on Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981). He co-founded Amblin Entertainment and later set up The Kennedy/Marshall Company. Five of his productions were nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards, among them Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Color Purple (1985), The Sixth Sense (1999), Seabiscuit (2003) and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008). His directing credits include Congo (1995), Alive (1993), Arachnophobia (1990) and Eight Below (2006), plus documentaries such as Jazz Fest: A New Orleans Story (2022) and The Beach Boys (2024).
