- In November 2012 author Terri Donald sued Perry, claiming Good Deeds was based on her 2007 book Bad Apples Can Be Good Fruit. She sought $225,000 and a credit for her book in the opening and closing credits, and had reportedly sent him a copy under the pseudonym TLO Red'ness before production.

- Tyler Perry collected Golden Raspberry Award nominations for both Worst Actor and Worst Director for the film, and was nominated for the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture for the same performance.
- Good Deeds grossed $15,583,924 on its opening weekend, ranking second, and by November 2012 the film had more than doubled that with a total gross of $35,025,791.
