Plot summary
Five years after the Titans were awakened, Kong lives under Monarch watch inside a dome on Skull Island, where a perpetual storm closes in. Jia, a deaf Iwi girl and Ilene Andrews' adopted daughter, visits him, and Andrews refuses to move him, fearing Godzilla would follow. Bernie Hayes, an Apex Cybernetics technician who hosts a Titan conspiracy podcast, pulls data hinting at something sinister at his employer's Pensacola facility, then sees Godzilla attack the site and finds a massive device giving off a beacon. Madison Russell, a listener to his podcast, brings her friend Josh Valentine into the investigation. Apex chief Walter Simmons recruits Nathan Lind, a former Monarch scientist, to lead a search for a power source in the Hollow Earth.

- Director Adam Wingard revealed that the shoot was hit by a viral outbreak that took out 40 percent of the crew for a week, a camera operator who broke his foot on the third day of filming, and a spider bite that forced Ben Seresin to seek hospital attention.
- Composer Tom Holkenborg asked for a bass drum roughly ten feet in diameter for the score, but the builder was only able to scale it down to eight feet.
- Eiza González revealed in April 2022 that much of the original story, including an alternate storyline for her character, was changed during post-production, with Jessica Henwick's character cut completely, which affected several characters.
- Legendary sent an offer to Frances McDormand for a role, and in July 2018 it was revealed that Danai Gurira was in early talks to join the film.
