Plot summary
Five campers settle into the woods beside Crystal Lake, hoping to find marijuana they believe grows there. Jason Voorhees finds them, and Whitney Miller, who reminds him of his mother, is taken away alive. Six weeks later, Trent brings his girlfriend Jenna, along with Chelsea, Bree, Chewie, Nolan, and Lawrence, to his summer cabin on the lake shore. Whitney's brother Clay shows up at Crystal Lake looking for her, and the sheriff tells him to search elsewhere. At the cabin, Jenna offers to help Clay as he searches. Chelsea and Nolan head out onto the water with a wakeboard, while Clay and Jenna walk the grounds of the old campground.

Aaron Yoo had his appendix removed shortly before filming began, so the schedule was adjusted; as soon as he was fit, director Marcus Nispel hung him upside down from rafters, exposing the staples over his surgical wound for Chewie's post-death shot.- Stuntman Derek Mears was hired as Jason Voorhees on the recommendation of make-up effects supervisor Scott Stoddard, but he had already begun physical training to pursue the part before the producers ever contacted him.
- Writers Damian Shannon and Mark Swift wanted a scene where the audience finds a deer carcass while following Jason through his tunnels, but producer Brad Fuller told them to do without it because it would cost $100,000.

Amanda's death, with Jason hanging her in a sleeping bag over a campfire, was too dangerous to shoot physically, so Asylum Visual Effects composited two shots and filmed a real campfire instead of a computer-generated one.SPOILER
Chelsea's death by speedboat was too dangerous even for a stuntperson, so Asylum digitally combined footage of Willa Ford reacting to an imaginary boat with shots of the actual boat.- Jason's jacket was a hunting jacket and a military jacket merged together: the top of the hunting one was placed over the military one because the team liked how the military jacket billowed during Derek Mears' kill movements, giving what Mears called a "giant Frankenstein jacket".
- Writers Shannon and Swift placed a wheelchair and a sweater in Jason's tunnels as homages to earlier films: the wheelchair for Mark, the paraplegic killed in Friday the 13th Part 2, and the sweater for Mrs. Voorhees in the original Friday the 13th.
