Plot summary
The first child in fifteen years is on the way, twenty years after nuclear war and plague left the world with few survivors. Others want control of Sarah and of her unborn baby. When the water in the shelter runs low, she and her mother leave Samuel's basement and join the camps of refugees. Michael runs a camp radio station, playing music he finds and sending out messages of hope. Sarah listens to his voice on her radio. David leads a gang of looters. With drought driving her from home and others chasing her, Sarah reaches Three Caves, an underground refuge, and meets Michael there.
