Plot summary
Claude Ridder is discharged from a hospital in Belgium, where he was treated after shooting himself in the heart. Two men are waiting for him and ask whether he will take part in a time travel study run by a private group. They bring him to Crespel, a research center kept secret in the countryside. There the scientists explain that their mice have already traveled into the past and come back, and that only a person can describe what the trip was like. Claude agrees without much worry about coming out alive. The plan is to send him a year back for one minute and then bring him home. The machine does not behave that way, and his past arrives in fragments.
