Plot summary
Newt Scamander, a British magizoologist, comes to New York in 1926 carrying a suitcase in which whole habitats and magical creatures are kept. A niffler slips out when it spots a silver coin, and the chase takes Newt into a bank, where he meets Jacob Kowalski, a factory worker applying for a loan to open a bakery. The two men leave with each other's cases. Tina Goldstein, an auror demoted by the Magical Congress of the United States of America, arrests Newt for performing magic where no-majes could see. Once Jacob opens the wrong case in his apartment, creatures scatter across the city, and Newt and Tina set out to recover them. Percival Graves inspects the wreckage an unseen force leaves behind, and Credence Barebone, the adopted son of the anti-magic crusader Mary Lou Barebone, meets him in secret.
