Plot summary

The Ménard family meets at The Even Tempered Dad, the bar Henri inherited from his father, to mark the 35th birthday of Yolande, the wife of his brother Philippe. Betty, thirty, is unhappy about the state of her love life, and Philippe, an executive at a software firm, is uneasy about how his boss received the tie he wore on television. Their mother, the family's strong-willed matriarch, aims caustic remarks at everyone. The bar is near-empty for the occasion, and Henri's paralyzed dog lies in it. Denis, the bartender, keeps clear of the arguments and supplies the voice of reason.
