Plot summary
Valerie Plame is a wife and mother who works as an intelligence officer at the CIA, a fact known outside the agency only to her husband, Joe Wilson, and her parents. Her job involves sensitive and sometimes dangerous covert operations overseas. As the Iraq War approaches, she is assigned to find out whether Saddam Hussein has nuclear weapons, and she interviews scientists inside Iraq in secret. Wilson is a diplomat who most recently served as the United States ambassador to Gabon. Because of his earlier diplomatic background in Niger, Plame's CIA colleagues ask him to travel there and learn whether Iraq is procuring yellowcake uranium for nuclear weapons. He determines that it is not.
