Plot summary
Alyssa has been living with her grandmother Lucy since her mother's death a year ago. After she is suspended from school, Lucy brings her to the Bahamas to live with James Hawk, the father Alyssa never knew existed and who never knew of her. James studies dolphin communication at Smith's Point on Grand Bahama Island, and his prickly manner has put him at odds with local politicians who want good relations with tourists. His research station may be lost to a tourist attraction. Alyssa and her father struggle to get along at first, but Tamika, James's girlfriend, and her father Daniel help smooth the way.
