Plot summary
A maiden voyage meant to make history begins when the Roebling Clipper, a trans-lunar passenger ship, launches with scalar engines capable of a trip around the Moon in hours. Aboard are pilot Fiona Henslaw, Dr. Denise Balaban, First Lady Simone Mathany, entrepreneur Steve Roebling, and a lottery winner. During the flight a solar flare sends a burst of cosmic rays that drives the engine harder and knocks the vessel off its orbit, leaving it out of control and headed for the sun. At Mission Control, President Thomas Mathany and a team of experts work on a plan to intercept the craft with a shuttle from the International Space Station.
