Plot summary
Don Peterson, an advertising writer, and Helen Bauer, a successful New York commercial illustrator, have been together for some time, keeping separate apartments. Helen has modern ideas about romance and no wish to surrender her independence. After a party, Don stays hidden in Helen's bedroom until the last guest has gone; he says he is done with sneaking around and wants marriage. Helen's immigrant father, Adolphe, condemns the affair, and his Old World views push her toward accepting, though she expects marriage to wreck what they have. They open an advertising agency together, and money trouble there puts pressure on the new marriage.
