Lyle Alzado

Lyle Alzado was an American football defensive end who built a reputation for an intense, intimidating style of play, and he later acted in films and television. Born in Brooklyn and raised on Long Island, he played at Kilgore College and Yankton College before Denver chose him in the 1971 draft. Across a 15-year NFL career with the Broncos, Cleveland Browns, and Los Angeles Raiders, he won Super Bowl XVIII, earned three All-Pro and two Pro Bowl selections, and in 1982 was named Comeback Player of the Year. He retired after the 1985 season. His screen work leaned toward youth-oriented comedy and adventure; he played a bullying construction worker in Ernest Goes to Camp (1987) and an unstoppable killer in Destroyer (1988), and he appeared in Club Fed (1990). On television he headlined Learning the Ropes, played himself in Amazing Stories and Small Wonder, and worked as an NBC color analyst. He died in 1992.
