Plot summary
Witness Security is the Justice Department branch that relocates and protects people who agree to testify, and John Kruger is one of its marshals. His superior, Arthur Beller, hands him a new assignment: Lee Cullen has told the FBI that executives at Cyrez, a defense contractor, financed an electromagnetic rifle for the black market. She copies the weapon's development data, and William Donahue, a Cyrez vice president, notices the intrusion. The disc she gives the FBI is replaced with a fake. Lee turns down Kruger's offer of protection, and mercenaries attack her home. Kruger reaches her in time and takes her to a new location, then learns that other witnesses under protection are being murdered and that someone inside WITSEC is leaking information.

- The corrupt-arms corporation in Eraser was originally named "Cyrex", but Cyrix, a microprocessor company and rival of Intel, protested; the name was changed digitally in every scene where it appeared, a costly process at the time, and dialogue was redubbed, though some "Cyrex" logos remain in the finished film.
- Arnold Schwarzenegger performed some of the physical stunts in Eraser himself; for an aerial sequence he had to fall 65 feet in a vertical descent and perform a back flip in mid-flight, a shot that took seven takes to get right.
- Eraser was one of the first major films released on DVD, part of the Japanese launch lineup when Warner Home Video debuted the format on December 20, 1996.
- Eraser took the record for the largest opening for a Warner Bros. Pictures film in Malaysia, and held it for six years until 2002, when Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets took it.
- Vanessa Williams, cast as the key witness Lee Cullen, came to the attention of the Kopelsons when Maria Shriver, Arnold Schwarzenegger's wife at the time, suggested her for the role.
- For the villain DeGuerin the filmmakers wanted an actor who was a more mature version of Kruger and cast James Caan; before Caan was officially cast, Jonathan Pryce had also been considered for the role.
