Plot summary
Christmas brings Miranda Carson Chester back to Carlton Heath, the town where she searched a year ago for her father and met Ian McAndrick, the man who helped her. Last Christmas she fell in love with him there. She arrives from Seattle with presents, ready to spend the holiday with the long-lost family she has found and to take part in the traditions she missed as a child. Her father, James Whitcomb, was a celebrated theater actor whom she thought had a link to the town. Margaret Whitcomb, his widow, asks that Miranda's connection to the family stay a secret so that no scandal touches it, and Miranda agrees.
