Plot summary
Joel is a tech venture capitalist whose fortunes have fallen. Nicolaus and Lester are entrepreneurs seeking investors for Empathy, Inc., a virtual reality company. The technology it proposes would allow wealthy users to spend time in the shoes of those with less, and the experiences it offers are meant to be realistic and moving. Joel puts money of his own and money belonging to his in-laws into the startup.
