Plot summary

Elton John is on his Farewell Yellow Brick Road concert tour, and the run ends in North America with a date at Dodger Stadium. The documentary follows that farewell stretch and looks back across 50 years of music, drawing on historic performance footage and on entries from the journals he has kept. He speaks about the adversity, the abuse and the addiction he has faced, and about the early days of the career.

  • After Brandi Carlile saw a draft of the documentary at Elton John's home in southern France with director David Furnish, she composed the song "Never Too Late"; the title change came afterwards, replacing the working title Goodbye Yellow Brick Road: The Final Elton John Performances and the Years That Made His Legend.
  • At the 97th Academy Awards, "Never Too Late", written and performed by Elton John and Brandi Carlile, was nominated for Best Original Song, becoming John's fifth nomination in the category and Carlile's first.
