Plot summary
An old photograph and a name, Michael Roth, bring Eric Norris to El Camino, Nevada, in search of the father he has never met. His card is declined at the motel, and Deputies Billy Calhoun and Carl Hooker start watching him. After Carl sees him buy a bottle of Drano, he decides Eric is cooking meth. Kate Daniels, a single mother whose son Seth has not started talking, works at Vicente's liquor store; at the diner Eric overhears her say she cannot afford cake and quietly buys the boy a slice. The deputies arrest Eric over the weed in his car, and Carl beats him. Billy leaves the cell open and gives him his keys. Carl chases him to the store, firing, and Eric takes cover inside with Kate, Seth, Vicente and a belligerent stranger on Christmas Eve.
