Plot summary
Fifty-six separate scenes make up a picture of Iceland at Christmas. In one, a farm nobody lives on any more is burning out in the countryside. In another, children sing carols at their school. At a slaughterhouse, chickens move along a rail. A woman in a museum argues with her former husband by telephone, and a girl at home puts a new virtual reality headset on her grandmother. Each scene stands alone, moving between happiness and sadness as the country readies itself for the holidays. Worry and anticipation run through the season. The pieces together form a portrait of present-day society.
