Plot summary
Lára is a struggling single mother in Iceland. Her credit cards are maxed out and she has lost her apartment, so she lives in her car with her six-year-old son Eldar. She takes work as a trainee in border security with the airport police at Reykjanesbær, on the Reykjanes Peninsula. Adja comes from Guinea-Bissau, where her girlfriend was killed because she was a lesbian, and she hopes for asylum in Canada. Lára flags a discrepancy in Adja's passport, and Adja is held in a refugee center while a decision is made about her immigration status.
