Plot summary
Dr. Carly Monroe takes over her grandfather's veterinary practice in Long Lake, Minnesota, where the dog shelter Friends Forever is one of the clients. Michelle Landis, Carly's closest friend, runs it with her brother Dan, Carly's high school sweetheart. Dan dates Kristi Waters, a reporter at the local station, and the two co-host a weekly segment in which Dan, billed as Dan the Dog Man, presents a shelter dog for adoption while Kristi, who dislikes dogs, smiles on air. Kristi announces that she and Dan are engaged and that her new job will take them to New York City. That leaves Michelle to run the shelter alone, contrary to their earlier arrangement. With thirty days before the move, Carly will not say how she feels about Dan.
