Plot summary

Paule Zachmann teaches philosophy and is a few weeks short of her fiftieth birthday, a figure she returns to again and again in her voice-over. She has been married for ten years and has a fifteen-year-old daughter. When her husband's affair with a 28-year-old woman named Capucine comes to light, the age she is about to turn takes on a special weight. A fellow lecturer in corduroy trousers makes advances, and she refuses him once more. Her midlife crisis deepens. Paule signs up with an internet site called L'âme-sœur, which is supposed to help her through it, and she begins meeting men.
