Plot summary
Pilot Jim Hoffman is caught flying a shipment of cocaine into the United States, and his wife and two sons are along on the trip. He agrees to become an FBI informant, and the family moves to San Diego. Special Agent Benedict Tisa, his handler, keeps pressing him to set up his boss, Morgan Hetrick, a narcotics trafficker with money in overseas accounts. Hoffman tries to play both sides. His neighbor John DeLorean, unhappy with the automobile industry, is designing a car for the future, and the two families become friends.

- Five days into shooting Driven, Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico, where the San Diego-set film was being made. Rather than move elsewhere, the filmmakers returned to keep production and its money in the local economy, rebuilding sets and changing locations.
- DeLorean historians and John DeLorean's family called Driven wildly inaccurate, saying the close friendship it shows between DeLorean and FBI informant James Hoffman never existed and that Erin Moriarty's Katy Connors was invented for the film.
- The DeLorean car driven in the film was lent by the Puerto Rico DeLorean club, which said it would not have loaned it had the club known how negatively the finished film depicted John DeLorean and his car.
