Plot summary
In the late 1960s, brothers Andy and Jimmy and their mother Kat leave a violent household in Sydney, stealing the family car and crossing the country for a new start. They settle in a caravan park at Seacliffe, south of Perth, and Kat sews piecework while the boys go to school. By 1972 Andy works in a timber mill and Jimmy, a surf prodigy, wins the Seacliffe Amateur title but drifts into petty crime. Andy spots a gap in the market: custom wetsuits sewn by Kat and short boards shaped in the backyard garage. Sales trickle in, though a bank refuses them a loan. JB, a surf filmmaker, and Lani, his companion from Hawaii, arrive in a converted school bus. The brothers name their business Drift, and clashes with the conservative town and a biker gang follow.
