Steve Bastoni
Biography
Steve Bastoni, an Italian-born Australian actor raised in Melbourne, has worked across film, television, and stage for over three decades. His early screen work included 1986 film The Still Point and a recurring role in Prisoner, and he landed his first lead as Angel in Police Rescue from 1991 to 1996, earning two AFI Award nominations. His film credits include On the Beach (2000), The Crocodile Hunter: Collision Course (2002), The Matrix Reloaded (2003), Drift (2013), The Water Diviner (2014), and Poker Face (2022), while 15 Amore brought him an AACTA Award nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role. He played Steve Parker in Neighbours from 2007 to 2009 and hosted Missing Persons Unit from 2009 to 2010. On stage he appeared in The Rocky Horror Show, Oliver!, and A View from the Bridge, and he has written and directed short films; his first, The Gift, won several international awards. He is the founder of the Peninsula Film Festival.

First role
Bastoni landed a role in the short film Skipping Class at 16. After that, he got an Actors Equity Card and signed with an agent.
A role that slipped away
After Police Rescue, Bastoni went to America for three months. There he got an offer of five episodes of Superboy, but he could not get a work permit in time and had to turn it down.
A change of course
At six years old, Steve Bastoni saw a London staging of Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and that show sparked his interest in acting.
Behind the camera
Bastoni is the founder and coordinator of the Peninsula Film Festival, an annual event in Melbourne since 2011 that is billed as Victoria's biggest outdoor film festival.
