Plot summary
Eugene Evans lives in a drought-stricken town where dust storms have left his family's farm close to foreclosure. His father left when Eugene was five, and his mother has remarried a lawman, George Evans, who pushes Eugene to find work. At a town meeting, the sheriff displays a wanted poster for Allison Wells, sought for bank robbery and murder and carrying a $10,000 bounty. Eugene and his friend Joe set out to look for her. In the family barn, Eugene comes upon a wounded woman holding a revolver: Allison, who trades her story for clean bandages. She gives him the revolver and offers $20,000 if he helps her reach Mexico.
