Plot summary
A debut album of pop-funk songs, recorded by brothers Donnie and Joe Emerson themselves, comes out in 1978. Almost nobody hears it, and the brothers set aside their rock 'n' roll dreams. Thirty years later, critics come across the record, rediscover and reappraise it, and the music the two made as young men finds listeners at last. The renewed attention brings Donnie, now grown, back to the years he spent chasing a career in music, and to Don Emerson Sr., the father who backed him. He has to confront the past and the emotional toll his ambitions took on the family behind him.
