Plot summary

Kharis Redwater, an environmental activist, dies in an accident that is called into question. Her mother, Mary Lynne Redwater, calls her back to the living world. What comes back is Kharis, reborn outside a small northern town as a Wheetago, a ferocious creature that grows hungrier the more it eats. Stacey Cole, a park ranger who served in the military, and Betty Stonechild, a police officer, turn to their traditional teachings for a way to stop Kharis from feeding on anyone in her path.
