Plot summary
An eruption of a volcano close to Los Angeles sets off a chain of disasters: a fatal explosion, a strong earthquake, and a rain of fire that throws the city into chaos. John Benson, a journalist and family man, sees the catastrophe as the story that could make his career, and he begins studying the rising seismic activity around the city so he can report on it in detail. He is also determined to keep his wife Cathy and their children, Derek and Brooke, safe, and he faces the choice between the reporting he wants and the safety of his family more than once.
