Plot summary
Deathstalker, once a knight, walks a battlefield taking jewelry and a golden amulet off the corpses. In a village tavern a two-headed troll attacks him over the amulet, and he kills it. He decides the amulet is a burden and throws it in a river, but it turns up in his pocket again. The witch Toralva cannot read the writing on the amulet, but she tells him the amulet is tied to him until death and that he needs a wizard who can translate it. She warns him a great evil is rising, and he does not believe her. Following her directions, he enters a cave system where man-eating serpents attack him. He gets away with a chest that holds the wizard Daedelad, who is called Doodad.
