Plot summary
Henry Clarke is a cat burglar who enters a Spanish sanatorium for people with alcohol problems, though he is not seeking treatment. His actual goal is to be near Salinas, a wealthy patient, so he can steal from Salinas's house. Fé Moreau and her husband Richard, who is much older, suggest working together. The three first break into another stately home as a rehearsal. Richard cannot crack the safe, which so angers Clarke that he hauls the whole safe out of the house. Fé and Clarke start a romantic affair, which Richard does not discourage. Fé buys Clarke a new E-Type Jaguar convertible and tells him the safe held jewels worth at least $500,000. They prepare to rob Salinas's mansion.
