Trailer

Plot summary

A post-apocalyptic land is consumed by Rottens, and a farmer and his teenage daughter try to survive. An unruly gang makes a plan to kidnap the daughter and sell her for its own profit, which brings the farmer into a confrontation with the gang. A wicked tornado approaches, and the Rottens are everywhere. The zombies are mostly kept off screen: the camera acts as a Rotten's eyes in black-and-white point-of-view shots while the actors react to it, and only one Rotten appears in full make-up. The story first ran as a five-part webseries, and its acts were later joined into one film.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Dead Kansas (2013)

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.

  • Dead Kansas is the first zombie film to extensively use point of view; the director chose POV over traditional make-up and showing the Rottens because he wanted to do something different.
  • Only one physical zombie, in full make-up, appears in Dead Kansas, towards the end of the film, and the other Rottens are never shown: they are simulated in black-and-white point of view, with the camera acting as the Rotten's eyes while the actors reacted.
  • When a soundtrack was needed, producers Aaron K. Carter and Adam Ledezma used a Power Of Aggression demo tape they had recorded over a decade earlier, with Ledezma on drums and Carter on bass in the punk band.
