Plot summary
Old high school friends meet on Dan's yacht for a weekend cruise and to mark Zach's thirtieth birthday. Amy comes with her husband James and their infant daughter Sarah, alongside Zach and Lauren, and is introduced to Dan's new girlfriend Michelle. Far from shore, Michelle suggests stopping to swim in the calm water. Amy, who has been afraid of the ocean since her father drowned during a swim when she was small, stays on deck with the baby and Dan. Dan scoops Amy into his arms and jumps in with her. In the water, the others discover that no one lowered the boarding ladder, the yacht's smooth side offers no way up, and Sarah is alone on the deck.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Open Water 2: Adrift (2006)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Open Water 2: Adrift shares no story or characters with Open Water (2003), and its script existed before that film was even released; once Open Water became a hit, producers renamed this unrelated project to cash in on it as a sequel.
- Although Open Water 2: Adrift was adapted from Koji Suzuki's short story "Adrift," which supplied its working title, the film's promotional posters falsely claimed it was based on actual events.
