Plot summary
Lenny works as a projectionist at a movie theater in Manhattan. He is divorced, and the two weeks a year when Sage and Frey stay with him have arrived. He gives the boys a steady supply of improvised games, and he argues with other adults in front of them, pulling the children into the exchanges. Leni, his on-and-off girlfriend, is about as careless as he is, and she shares in looking after Sage and Frey. The visit leaves Lenny weighing whether to behave as a father or as a friend. His job also presses on him: a shift falls when he is due at the school, so he changes a reel, runs there on foot and keeps the boys with him at the theater.
