Plot summary
Harold owns D.C. Cab, a taxi company in Washington, D.C. that has seen better days, and the popular Emerald Cab Company is taking more of the city's business. Harold wants to clean the place up but does not have the money for it. The drivers who work for him are a mixed bunch, and all of them regard the wheel as a stopgap while they wait for better lives. Albert Hockenberry comes to town intending to work for Harold, a friend of his late father from their army days. Albert believes the company can amount to something and wants the drivers to work as a team.
