Plot summary
Seven years after Jamie left him, John learns that his ex-wife is getting remarried, news that deepens a depression he has never shaken. Jamie and Tim invite him to a party, where he drinks too much and meets Molly, who likes how openly he talks about himself. She keeps parts of her own life back. John follows her home, where he meets Cyrus, her son, who lives with her and whom she dotes on. Cyrus welcomes him inside and is friendly, and John begins spending nights at the house, drawn to Molly and aware of how close she and Cyrus are.
