Plot summary
Cassidy Merteuil, a manipulative student, arrives at an exclusive college in Santa Barbara, where Jason Argyle and Patrick Bates share a room. The two men work a scheme on her: Patrick sleeps with Cassidy, cutting off the connection she had been building with a British prince, which lets Jason collect on a wager he had made with her. Cassidy is shaken when the roommates own up to what they did. She answers by putting the two of them in competition. Jason's target is Sheila, who dates Michael steadily, and Patrick's is Alison, a woman whose engagement does not stop him.
