Plot summary
Cropsey is the name of a boogeyman in a New York City urban legend, one the two filmmakers knew as children. Their project starts as a look at that story and widens into the mystery of five missing children from the area. At the center of it is Andre Rand, a man convicted in a child kidnapping case. Rand had worked at the Willowbrook State School, and he lived for stretches in campsites near it. The filmmakers wrote to him while he was serving a sentence for a 1987 kidnapping, hoping to interview him. Families of missing children, police investigators who worked the cases, and Rand's defense attorneys all speak in the film, which uses archival news footage as well.
