Plot summary
Adonis Johnson has never met his father, the heavyweight champion Apollo Creed, who died before he was born. Mary Anne Creed, Apollo's widow, takes the boy in from a Los Angeles detention center and raises him. As a young man Adonis fights for money in Tijuana and quits his office job in Los Angeles to box seriously. A sparring session at a Los Angeles gym ends with Danny Wheeler beating him, and Mary Anne, who remembers how her husband died in the ring, argues against the career. Adonis moves to Philadelphia, where he meets his neighbor Bianca, a singer, and asks Rocky Balboa, his father's old rival, to train him. Rocky has stopped working with fighters.
