Plot summary
Lee Ray Oliver waits on death row. He is given a lethal injection before witnesses, then wakes in the morgue to find that the dose held only saline and an anesthetic. Dr. Copeland, a neuropharmacologist, tells him he has a choice: take part in an experimental drug trial whose side effects may be serious or fatal, or receive a truly lethal injection.
