Plot summary
In a morgue, BJ has sex with a corpse whose toe tag carries a biohazard symbol. Samantha is trying to get over a breakup with her girlfriend Nikki. At a house party, the host, Alice, pushes strong drinks on her while Zain offers her drugs. BJ offers her a drink; she tells him she is a lesbian, blacks out, and he rapes her in his car. She wakes the next morning thinking she has a hangover. Her mother, uneasy about her daughter's lesbianism, fears she has returned to hard drugs, and Alice tells her the police are looking for BJ. At her restaurant job, eating is hard and noise overwhelms her, and heavy bleeding takes her to her doctor, who suspects she has contracted a sexually transmitted disease through heterosexual contact.

- Veteran horror actress Caroline Williams was cast as the mother of Contracted's lead, Samantha, after director Eric England and producer Matt Mercer approached her through her Facebook page rather than through an audition.
- Eric England first planned Contracted around a protagonist losing her virginity, then changed it to a character unsure of her sexuality. He also wanted to set the film outside the United States with a xenophobia theme, but moved the story to Los Angeles because he lacked the budget.
- Casting Contracted was difficult because the film had limited funds, and some actors turned it down after finding its content too bold or because of scheduling conflicts.
