Plot summary

Joe Moran, an American, is convicted during the Korean War for striking a colonel and imprisoned in Germany, where he meets Captain Ross, his former company commander, jailed for black marketeering. Joe agrees to escape with Ross and his cohorts, but a policeman is killed during the attempt and Joe gets away alone, leaving the others to be recaptured. Years later he lives in the South of France under the name Joe Martin, renting boats to tourists, married to Fabienne and father to twelve-year-old Michèle. Ross, now a wanted drug smuggler, arrives with Katanga, Whitey and Fausto and demands the use of Joe's boats, holding Fabienne and Michèle to force his cooperation.
